Job summary

LAC Federal is seeking an experienced Cataloger to support a major federal library. You will catalog books, digital resources, and library materials, ensuring bibliographic accuracy within the ILS. This hybrid role may involve on-site work in Washington, D.C.

Required: MLS/MLIS from an ALA-accredited program and 2+ years cataloging experience, with strong knowledge of RDA, AACR2, LCSH, LCC and MARC21. Proficiency with SirsiDynix Symphony preferred.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in library and information science or equivalent from an ALA-accredited institution.
• At least 2 years of cataloging experience.
• Strong knowledge of cataloging standards including RDA, AACR2, LCSH, LCC and MARC21.
• Experience with SirsiDynix Symphony and workflows is preferred.
• Familiarity with ILS (Sirsi), OCLC Connexion, Classification Web, and LC Authorities list.
• Metadata and taxonomies for catalog collections experience.
• Experience applying local standards is desired.
• Preservation and government documents understanding is desired.
• Experience creating/modifying reports is a plus.
• Excellent written and oral communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently.
• Strong analytical and detail-oriented prioritization skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform original and copy cataloging of library materials using OCLC, RDA Toolkit, MARC records.
• Create and maintain bibliographic records using MARC, RDA standards, LC headings and LC classification.
• Update and withdraw cataloging records in the ILS and OCLC holdings.
• Assist with withdrawal of materials and collection space planning.
• Identify cataloging projects and suggest process improvements.
• Develop and document cataloging best practices and local guidelines.
• Stay current with evolving cataloging standards and industry best practices.
