Job summary

Sheridan Grand Rapids is hiring a Manufacturing Operator for the Bindery and Press Room. You will be trained to operate high-speed bindery equipment and work as part of a team to meet daily production goals.

No prior bindery or press experience is required; training will be provided. This role includes a Monday–Friday schedule with potential Saturday overtime and shift premiums for 2nd and 3rd shifts.

Qualifications

• Experience operating machinery in any industry (manufacturing, warehouse, trades).
• High school diploma or GED; or 1–3 months related experience or training; or equivalent combo of education/experience.
• Ability to read and comprehend instructions.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as work orders, safety rules, and maintenance instructions.
• Basic math skills and ability to use measuring devices.
• Good problem-solving skills.
• Mechanically inclined and comfortable with basic tools.
• Able to read basic job instructions and measurements.

Responsibilities

• Hit daily production goals as part of a team.
• Follow daily running orders provided by Scheduling Team.
• Communicate with Supervisor and Scheduling Team as needed.
• Set up machines and perform quality binding to meet expectations.
• Maintain high throughput with quick make-readies.
• Ensure waste is disposed of properly.
• Perform preventative maintenance and cleaning of equipment.
• Troubleshoot and minor repairs on machines and equipment.
• Assist maintenance with machine repairs.
• Take initiative to improve productivity.
• Keep work area safe and clean.
• Coordinate handoffs with the oncoming shift.
• Complete end-of-shift duties and prepare for the next shift.
• Assist training new operators.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

What You'll Do:

• Work as part of a team to hit daily production goals
• Follow daily running order provided by Scheduling Team.
• Communicate with Supervisor and Scheduling Team as needed.
• Set up machine and perform quality binding that meets expectations, lead by example.
• Maintain high throughput by performing quick and efficient make-readies
• Be sure all waste is disposed of properly.
• Perform preventative maintenance, general cleaning and upkeep of machine and auxiliary equipment.
• Troubleshoot and perform minor repairs to machine and auxiliary equipment.
• Assist maintenance personnel with machine repair.
• Exercise initiative, ask questions and look for ways of improving productivity.
• Keep area safe and clean.
• Adequately communicate with oncoming shift
• Perform end of shift duties leaving area ready for oncoming shift.
• Assist training new operators and employees.
• Other duties as assigned.

What We’re Looking For

No bindery or Press experience? No problem—we’ll train you. We’re looking for people who:

• Have experience operating machineryin any industry(manufacturing, warehouse, trades, etc.)
• High school Diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and /or training; or equivalent combination of education or experience
• Ability to read and comprehend instructions
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as work orders, workplace, and safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
• Basic math skills, add subtract, and ability to use a measuring device
• Basic problem‑solving skills
• Are mechanically inclined and comfortable using basic tools
• Can read basic job instructions and measurements

It's a Plus if You Have:

• One year manufacturing experience.
• Print, bindery, or finishing experience
• Experience setting up or adjusting production equipment

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
• On your feet for most of the shift
• Communicating with others to exchange information,
• Operating machine and/or power tools
• Work in noisy environments
• Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like
• Remain in stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods
• Adjusting or moving objects up to 50 lbs. in all directions

Base Schedule is Monday to Friday and may include Saturday overtime

• 1st shift: 7 AM-3 PM
• 2nd shift: 3 PM-11 PM
• 3rd shift: 11 PM-7 AM
• Overtime pays time and a half after 40 hours per week
• Shift premiums: 2 nd shift-5% and 3 rd shift-7%
