Job summary

SOSi is seeking a Mandarin Instructor in Northern Virginia to provide language instruction in a professional environment with lesson planning, delivery, and assessment. You will work with adult students, delivering ILR 0–3 proficiency growth and using current language learning technology.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field, at least five years of experience, and native or near-native Mandarin proficiency (ILR SLR 5, TA 3).

Qualifications

• U.S. citizenship and TS/SCI clearance with poly required.
• Preferred: current TS/SCI with polygraph and active clearance.
• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Language, or related field.
• Minimum five years of adult language instruction experience.
• Strong knowledge of Chinese history, culture, politics and economy.
• Excellent English written and verbal communication; standardized exam required.
• Native or near-native Mandarin competency (ILR SLR 5, TA 3).
• Experience using language learning technology and teaching methodologies.

Responsibilities

• Deliver instruction to ILR levels 0 to 3 to raise proficiency.
• Execute full cycle of lesson development, planning, instruction, and assessment.
• Develop lesson plans for beginner to advanced classes.
• Facilitate classes with real-world scenarios; include culture, history, politics, economy.
• Provide constructive feedback; consult with customers on organization needs.
• Assess learning and proficiency using ILR scale; complete required training.
