Job description

*This opportunity is presented by Shift Group on behalf of a highly profitable, market-leading EdTech SaaS partner.

About the Opportunity

We are partnering with a high-retention SaaS provider in the education technology space to find a hands-on Manager of Business Development. Your mission: build and lead their first true BDR team out of Boston. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will own the pipeline problem end-to-end, building this function from the ground up and putting your fingerprints on how the company grows for years to come.

We back this expectation with a highly competitive $140,000 - $150,000 OTE (70/30 Base/Commission Split). If you want to solve the most critical pipeline challenges, operate with urgency, and build the bench that becomes a future enterprise sales organization, this is your arena.

Key Responsibilities
  • Build the Team: Recruit, hire, and onboard 4-5 BDRs, establishing Boston as the center of gravity for the go-to-market organization.
  • Own the Pipeline: Drive a dual motion: net-new acquisition targeting districts relying on outdated manual processes, and aggressive expansion into our existing customer base.
  • Coach in the Trenches: Run daily call reviews, role plays, and 1-on-1s. Listen to calls, give direct feedback in the moment, and raise the floor on the whole team.
  • Establish the Standard: Build the activity model, qualification criteria, sequences, and reporting cadence from scratch. Inspect daily and hold the line.
  • Feed the Closers: Partner with Account Executives to ensure lead quality and clean handoffs, creating a growth path that turns your BDRs into future AEs.
Qualifications
  • The Experience: 2+ years as a top-performing BDR/SDR, plus experience as a team lead, player-coach, or manager. Title matters less than execution—you do not need a prior "Manager" title if you have led people and know what elite prospecting looks like.
  • The Motor & Execution: You operate with intense urgency. You manage on daily activity numbers, live in the CRM (HubSpot preferred), and bring data-backed recommendations rather than opinions.
  • The Coaching Instinct: You genuinely like developing early-career talent and can point to people you've successfully promoted or mentored.
  • Industry Edge (Bonus): Experience selling into K-12, the public sector, or any high-velocity transactional SaaS environment is a massive advantage.
