Job summary

Affirm is hiring for a senior backend role within the Marketplace Performance team to drive the next era of ads platform growth. You will own long-term technical strategy, collaborate across product, design and analytics, and help scale high availability systems using AWS, MySQL, Spark and Kubernetes.

You will mentor engineers, set code and design standards, and contribute to the evolution of consumer experiences with React-based interfaces.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale using languages like Python or Kotlin.
• Extensive track record of developing highly available distributed systems using AWS, MySQL, Spark and Kubernetes.
• Experience developing consumer experiences using UI frameworks like React.
• 2+ years of experience working in Ad Tech or related platforms.
• Delivers major features, system components or deprecates existing functionality with a clear execution plan.
• Thrives in ambiguity and can navigate from low-level language idioms to large system architectures.
• Growth trajectory showing feedback-driven improvement and collaboration across teams.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for global engineering collaboration.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience in a related field.

Responsibilities

• Set technical strategy for the team on a year-long horizon and align with business goals.
• Collaborate across product management, design, and analytics to ensure technical sustainability and risk are understood.
• Act as a force-multiplier by defining and advocating effective technical solutions and processes.
• Own team operations, availability, monitoring, playbooks, testing, and on-call readiness.
• Establish code review and design standards and promote them beyond the team.
• Mentor and develop talent by providing feedback and leading by example.
