Job summary

Affirm seeks an experienced backend leader to architect and scale our marketplace ads platform. You will own long-term technical strategy, drive cross-team collaboration, and define standards to ensure reliability and performance across our distributed systems.

With 8+ years in backend design and 2+ years in Ad Tech, you will influence architecture from low-level details to large-scale system decisions, while mentoring teammates and shaping the engineering culture.

Qualifications

• 8+ years designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale.
• Experience building highly available distributed systems (AWS, MySQL, Spark, Kubernetes).
• Experience delivering consumer experiences using UI frameworks like React.
• 2+ years in Ad Tech or related platforms.
• Ability to define technical and execution plans for major features or components.

Responsibilities

• Set technical strategy for the team on a year-long horizon.
• Collaborate across product, design, and analytics for sustainable solutions.
• Act as a force-multiplier by defining technical solutions and processes.
• Own team operations: monitoring, on-call rotations, playbooks, testing and alerting.
• Set coding standards and promote quality and ownership across the team.
