Job summary

Affirm is building its first fully-featured ads platform to enhance marketplace experiences for merchants and customers. You will lead backend architecture for scalable systems, collaborating with product, design, and analytics to balance performance, reliability, and business impact.

You will drive technical strategy, foster a culture of quality, and grow talent across the team, while maintaining on-call readiness and robust monitoring practices.

Qualifications

• 8+ years designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale.
• Experience with AWS, MySQL, Spark, and Kubernetes.
• Experience delivering major features with a technical execution plan.
• Strong communication and collaboration with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Set technical strategy for the team on a year-long horizon.
• Collaborate across product, design, and analytics to ensure sustainability and risk awareness.
• Define and advocate technical solutions and operational processes.
• Own team operations, monitoring, playbooks, testing, and on-call readiness.
• Foster culture of quality and code standards.
• Mentor and grow team members.
