Job summary

Affirm is seeking a senior backend-focused engineer to lead technical strategy for the Marketplace Performance team. You will partner with product management, design, and analytics to ensure scalable, reliable systems that support our ads platform and merchant network.

You will own operations, define standards, mentor teammates, and drive high-impact features. This remote-first role offers flexibility and a competitive total compensation package.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale using languages like Python or Kotlin.
• Extensive track record of developing highly available distributed systems using AWS, MySQL, Spark and Kubernetes.
• Experience developing consumer experiences using UI frameworks like React.
• 2+ years of experience working in Ad Tech or related platforms.
• Experience delivering major features, system components or deprecating existing functionality with a clear technical plan.
• Ability to move from low-level language idioms to understanding large system architectures.
• Growth and impact trajectory showing feedback-driven improvement.
• Strong verbal and written communication supporting collaboration with a global engineering team.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

• Set technical strategy for your team on a year-long time scale and align it with business-impacting projects.
• Collaborate across product management, design and analytics to ensure technical sustainability and risks are understood.
• Act as a force-multiplier by defining and advocating technical solutions and operational processes.
• Own team operations and availability with monitoring, on-call playbooks, testing and alerting.
• Foster a culture of quality by setting code review and design standards and promoting them beyond the team.
• Develop talent by providing feedback, guidance and leading by example.
