Description of Work

The primary purpose of this position is to resolve facility maintenance issues in state-owned buildings within the Division of Highways and Division of Motor Vehicles managed by the Facilities Management Division. The employee works under the direction of the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor. Must have excellent knowledge of building codes and perform at the journey level in at least two trades (electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, masonry, or plastering). The position may also require work at other facilities as directed, including unscheduled overtime during emergencies, after-hours call-backs, and presence during inclement weather.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Applicants must demonstrate:

  • Working knowledge of methods, practices, tools, and materials used in general maintenance and repair.
  • Knowledge of maintenance techniques in electrical, HVAC, carpentry, drywall, roofing, locks, windows, plumbing, and mechanical equipment.
  • Experience supervising skilled or semiskilled contractors.
  • Ability to read blueprints and estimate repair costs.
  • Experience using a computer for routine records and reports.
Minimum Education and Experience

High school diploma or GED plus two years of experience in the trade areas, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. See oshr.nc.gov/experience-guide for details.

Special Qualifications

May require EPA certification as a Type I, II, III, or Universal technician.
