Description of Work

The North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections (NCDAC) is the largest state agency responsible for the care, custody, and supervision of adults sentenced after conviction for violating North Carolina laws. This includes State Prisons, Correction Enterprises, Division of Community Corrections, and Reentry Programs and Services. We have a mission that matters!

The NCDAC / Support Services / Division of Engineering, Construction, and Maintenance (DECM) is recruiting a Maintenance/Construction Technician III (Region Maintenance Technician) for the Mountain Regional Maintenance Team, based at Western Correctional Center for Women (WCCW) in Black Mountain, NC / Buncombe County. The role involves general preventative maintenance and system replacements.

The ideal candidate will have journeyman level experience in construction trades such as concrete, carpentry, masonry, etc., be able to read blueprints, work independently, and perform various maintenance duties.

This position requires daily travel to WCCW, assisting with maintenance at other regional facilities. It is full-time (40 hours/week), Monday to Friday, with potential weekend work and overnight travel. Benefits include retirement, health insurance, paid leave, and holidays. The salary range effective from January 1, 2025, is $39,671 - $69,426.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and two years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Possession of current EPA certification as a Type I, II, III, or Universal technician may be required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Experience in construction trades such as masonry, carpentry, site work, etc.
• Ability to read schematics and blueprints.
