Hourly Rate:$17.87 per hour; non-exempt classification

Duration: Academic Year (Fall/Spring) with the possibility of extension

Work Schedule: Up to 20 hours/week (no more than 999 hours per calendar year). Schedule developed with the Maintenance Coordinator

Training Period: Two months with the possibility of extension

General Statement

Under the direct supervision of the Maintenance Coordinator, the Maintenance Aide provides maintenance support to the University-Student Union (U-SU). The Maintenance Aide performs simple routine tasks and projects for the general upkeep, repair, and maintenance of the U-SU facility.

General Duties and Responsibilities

• Performs basic (non-skilled) tasks in carpentry, ceiling repair,wall repair, framing, demolition, and interior construction and repair;
• Performs minor repairs on plumbing systems;
• Performs minor electrical repairs on circuits, small appliances, and audio-visualequipment;
• Assists with the installation of surface conduit, wire pulling, and fixtures troubleshooting;
• Performs minor repairs to doors, locks, safety and security hardware, cabinets, and office furniture;
• Performs set-ups and breakdowns of tables, seating, riser platforms, and equipment as needed;
• Provides quality customer service to the University community;
• Provides information about the University-Student Union and the University to the campus community;
• Greets all guests and directs guests to the appropriate resource;
• Maintains an awareness of all University-Student Union and University activities and events;
• Assists with projects and events as needed;
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Currently enrolled Cal State LA student with a minimum of 6 undergraduate units and a minimum G.P.A. of 2.0, or graduate student with at least four graduate units and a minimum Cal State LA cumulative G.P.A. of 3.0;
• Willingness to work with an ethnically diverse and culturally pluralistic student body and staff;
• Ability to interact positively and build effective working relationships;
• Willingness to provide effective customer service promptly and courteously;
• Ability to lift 70 pounds;
• Ability to adapt to daily operational changes;
• Proficient oral, written, and listening skills;
• Strong organizational skills: the ability to prioritize, complete assigned duties, and perform routine tasks;
• Ability to learn and utilize maintenance equipment, desktop and web-based applications, and office equipment as needed;
• Knowledgeable of proper use, care, operation, and safety procedures of maintenance tools preferred;
• Mechanical aptitude and maintenance background preferred.
• Customer service experience preferred.
