Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Performs setups and breakdowns of events equipment (tables, riser platforms, seating).
  • Assists with programs, activities, events, and projects.
  • Performs cleaning tasks (vacuuming, carpet cleaning, floor work) as needed.
  • Enforces policies and procedures and ensures facilities are secure.
  • Provides customer service and information to the campus community.
  • Greets guests and directs them to resources; stays aware of university activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Hourly Rate:$18.42 per hour; non-exempt classification

Duration: Academic Year (Fall/Spring) with the possibility of extension

Work Schedule: Up to 20 hours/week (no more than 999 hours per calendar year.) Schedule developed with the Event Services Coordinator

Training Period: Two months with the possibility of extension

General Statement:

Under the direct supervision of the Event Services Coordinator, the Event Services Aide provides maintenance support to the University-Student Union (U-SU). The Event Services Aide performs simple routine tasks and projects for the effective operation of the U-SU and its programs, activities, and events.

General Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Performs setups and breakdowns of U-SU meetings and events equipment, including tables, riser platforms, and seating;
  • Assists with programs, activities, events, and projects;
  • Performs vacuuming, carpet cleaning, floor stripping, and waxing as needed;
  • Provides support in enforcing policies and procedures;
  • Ensures facilities are secure;
  • Provides quality customer service to the University community;
  • Provides information about the University-Student Union and the University to the campus community;
  • Greets all guests and directs guests to the appropriate resource;
  • Maintains an awareness of all University-Student Union and University activities and events;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
  • Currently enrolled Cal State LA student with a minimum of 6 undergraduate units and a minimum G.P.A. of 2.0, or graduate student with at least 4 graduate units and a minimum Cal State LA cumulative G.P.A. of 3.0;
  • Willingness to work with an ethnically diverse and culturally pluralistic student body and staff;
  • Ability to interact positively and build effective working relationships;
  • Willingness to provide effective customer service promptly and courteously;
  • Ability to lift 70 pounds;
  • Ability to adapt to daily operational changes;
  • Proficient oral, written, and listening skills;
  • Strong organizational skills: the ability to prioritize, complete assigned duties, and routine tasks;
  • Ability to learn and utilize maintenance equipment, desktop and web-based applications, and office equipment as needed;
  • Customer service experience preferred.

A background check/live scan (including a criminal record check) must be completed satisfactorily for an employment offer to remain valid.
