Major Responsibilities
- The Mail and Receiving Specialist supports the Technical Information, Administrative, and Logistics Services (TIALS) Contract, at NASA Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, OH.
- Processes inbound and outbound USPS mail.
- Processes internal mail for distribution.
- Receives, inspects and processes inbound packages.
- Able to utilize various computer applications to include Microsoft Office.
- Communicate with users regarding mail and packages.
- Keep clear and concise records in support of mail and package processing.
- Ability to multi task and work in different areas of Logistics.
- Possess strong communication skills.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
- Management has the ability to relocate the Mail and Receiving Specialist into other areas of Logistics.
- Operate a variety of small delivery vans, step vans, medium size buses and trucks.
- Operate lab bus and airport transportation van according to customer schedule.
- Deliver and scan packages including stock, mail, and other materials.
- Transport fragile instrumentation.
- Perform physical and clerical functions in support of the receipt of incoming material.
- Appropriately identify items received for routing to locations within GRC.
- Prepare and maintain receiving records in SAP.
- Maintain dispatch operations and create work requests using the Material Tracking System.
- Barcode packages for tracking material from receipt to delivery.
- Utilize X-Ray and Ion-scanner for all inbound packages.
- Inspect, sort, and distribute United States Postal Service (USPS) and inter-office mail.
- Ensure USPS items undergo approved safety inspections before release to the customer.
- Apply appropriate postage to ensure delivery date is aligned with customer requirements and item sensitivity.
- Process accountable mail, such as certified, registered, and classified.
- Apply ECN Tag to property in the field that bypassed receiving.
- Act as customer service representative for property issues for users assigned to designated property custodian accounts or specific groups of buildings on the Center.
- Assist users with preparing property disposal requests and tag property in the field for pickup.
- Process requests for additions and deletions using the Temporary Inactive Equipment System (TIES), including arrangements for transportation to/from Plum Brook Station.
- Perform annual inventory on TIES items in storage.
- Assist with annual re-justification process for TIES storage items.
- Verify incoming excess property against paperwork to ensure information is accurate.
- Determine condition of property, and submit recommendations for scrap or abandonment & destruction.
- Receive, tag and store excess property.
- Photograph incoming property and upload pictures to GSAXcess web site.
- Assist with annual equipment inventory by scanning or reading inventory tags.
- Arrange items in the warehouse to ensure safe storage.
- Continuously track and update locations of all property pending disposal.
- Coordinate property transfers, loans, and donations to other NASA, Federal, and State agencies.
- Conduct supply operations by ensuring material received matches the noun, national stock number (NSN), quantity received, and bin location.
- Ensure stores stock materials are placed in safe and appropriate locations that will allow for easy retrieval.
- Ensure stores stock shelf life items are clearly marked with the material expiration date.
- Ensure that appropriate quantities and unit of issue are retrieved from bin when issuing material from stock.
- Complete visual inspections of material to ensure there is no deterioration.
- Issue stock and package material appropriately to avoid damage in transport.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Overhead crane, commercial driver’s license, or forklift license may be required.
Experience: Previous experience in a customer service position or inventory specialist related field is highly desirable, but not required.
