Position

Machine Shop Technical Specialist – $36.00‑$61.00/hr.

The Machine Shop Technical Specialist will implement, sustain, and evaluate machining processes to reduce cost, improve throughput, and develop best practices within the machine shop. The main focus is on implementing and maintaining reliable and safe machining processes while improving quality, production rates, efficiencies, yields, costs, and changeovers. The Specialist will identify, develop, and deliver innovative solutions to constantly improve process capability and production volume while maintaining and improving quality standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Access and understand daily and weekly schedules.
• Find, read, write & follow work instructions displayed electronically (iPad).
• Correctly use all precision measuring instruments to verify part integrity.
• Correctly load and unload parts.
• Set‑up and manage applicable tools.
• Make any machine adjustment to maintain part integrity.
• Restart the machines at the required place in the operation.
• Design and make fixtures using CAD.
• Generate an effective CNC program using CAM.
• Produce good parts from a blueprint and a machine.
• Design and implement a complete machining process that runs continuously unattended, including probing, backup tooling, macros, and complex fixtures.
• Identify the proper gauges to ensure part integrity.
• Train operators to run the machines and produce good parts upon completion of a set‑up.
• Train others on machining principles and techniques.
• Maintain machines (oils, coolant, filters, and cleanliness).
• Display the leadership qualities required to keep multiple machines running effectively.
• Present and communicate technical issues at the highest level within the organization.
• Identify potential machine geometry issues causing defective parts.
• Follow all safety requirements within the department.
• Operate powered and non‑powered material‑handling equipment, including forklifts, pallet jack, cranes, and mobile straddle‑stocker lift.
• Follow instructions, procedures, and escalate any issue impacting workflow, quality, etc.
• Exhibit honesty and integrity and demonstrate adherence to rules, procedures, and policies.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

• Reads and understands blueprints.
• Knows how to inspect a part.
• Understands proper cutting tool selection, tool wear, and cutting tool applications.
• Requires technical leadership.
• Can troubleshoot all technical issues.

Desired qualifications:

• Preferred to speak, read, and write in Spanish.

Education: High school diploma or GED plus 1–3 months related experience, training, and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Minimum years of experience: 20+ years.

Language, Mathematical, and Reasoning Skills

Languages: Must be able to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations in English. Must be able to write analytical and technical reports, business correspondence, procedure manuals, and create instructional reference material. Must speak effectively before groups, customers, employees, and the general public.

Mathematics: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure; apply percentages, ratios, and proportions; interpret graphs.

Reasoning: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; interpret technical instructions in various forms.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Physical activity includes frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending (neck), bending (waist), squatting, twisting (neck and waist), climbing, kneeling, crawling, and reaching; hand use includes repetitive use, simple grasping, power grasping, fine manipulation, and pushing & pulling. Lifting ranges from 0–10 lbs. frequently to 61+ lbs. occasionally. The position requires computer use (monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc.) and operates in a general office or engineering lab environment, with frequent work around machining or on the production floor, exposure to moving mechanical parts and vibration, hazardous chemicals, fumes, airborne particles, weather conditions, and risk of electrical shock (never).
