Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking a senior mechanical/aerospace engineer to lead the design of the helium subsystem within the G&T team for a Lunar Vehicle. You will size components, create specs, and manage procurement, installation, and testing of valves, bottles, filters, sensors, piping and related hardware.

Based at our Rocket Park Facility in Florida, you will work under a senior engineer, coordinating with suppliers and Blue Origin groups to ensure safety, reliability, and performance of fluid

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of proven experience in the design of aerospace fluid or mechanical systems.
  • Experience in 3D CAD programs (Creo preferred).
  • Knowledge and experience with gas systems.
  • Proficiency in crafting engineering drawings with GD&T (ASME Y14.5).
  • Experience performing flow and pressure calculations as well as structural and thermal analysis of fluid systems.
  • Proven understanding of fluid components such as valves, tubing, and pressurized hardware.
  • Hands-on experience building and testing mechanical assemblies or pressurized components/systems.
  • Develop and maintain interface definitions between the vehicle and subsystems.
  • Knowledge of standard installation and fabrication methods of fluid systems (tube stock, fittings, connections, fasteners, welding, etc.)
  • Excellent verbal, written, and graphical communications skills.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Responsibilities

  • Fluids sub-assembly design and development, including developing specification and procurement of components, designing parts and assemblies in CAD (Creo preferred), performing trade studies, and analysis of test data.
  • Interpreting and generating Piping and instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) using AutoCAD.
  • Design and/or create specifications for fluid/gas components i.e., solenoid valves, directional valves, manifolds, regulators, pressure vessels, and instrumentation.
  • Develop and maintain interface definitions between fluid systems and other vehicle subsystems.
  • Design and analyze custom components for fluid, thermal, and structural applications.
  • Perform component verification of internally and externally sourced components to company standards.
