Job summary

The Carle Health NT7 Digestive Surgical Unit is hiring a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to support RN-led care for high-acuity surgical patients in Chicago. The role includes medication administration, IV piggybacks, wound care, and participating in care planning after initial RN assessment.

As part of a dedicated team, you will collaborate with physicians and RNs to ensure safe transitions, patient education, and adherence to unit protocols.

Qualifications

• Certifications: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days - American Heart Association (AHA)
• Education: College Diploma: Licensed Practical Nurse (Required)
• Work Experience: LPN >1yr

Responsibilities

• Passes all medications, hangs IV piggybacks and fluids (excluding IV Push meds).
• Charts assessments on assigned patients after RN initial assessment; charts care plans opened by RN.
• Communicates with physicians/APPs to receive orders and coordinate care for dressing changes; complete trach care as needed.
• Insert and care for NG tube and feedings through NG tube; care for and change ostomy; reinforce education and discharge instructions.
