Job summary

The South Dakota Lottery in Rapid City is seeking a customer-focused Retail Sales staffer to support retailers and the public. The role blends office tasks with field work, covering Rapid City and western South Dakota.

You will process claims, sell and cash tickets, reconcile the daily cash drawer, and travel for promotions and events. Work week is Mon–Fri 7:30 AM–4:00 PM, with occasional longer days.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

The South Dakota Lottery is looking for a professional sales staff individual who is a team player to work with our Retailer partners and customers in our Rapid City office!

The position involves both office and route responsibilities. The route work covers assigned retailers in Rapid City and western South Dakota. Office responsibilities involve processing claims, selling and cashing tickets, and reconciling the Rapid City daily cash drawer. There is also occasional travel to work events, promotional activities and meetings. Work week Mon – Fri 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM, with occasional shift accommodations, when working promotions, longer days etc.

Position Purpose: Be a liaison between the retailers, players and the SD Lottery. Responsibilities include establishing new lottery retail accounts and maintaining already established accounts in a defined route area, through training and instruction of the lottery rules and regulations. Responsible for delivering instant tickets and supplies, merchandising and returning instant tickets, deploying point of sale materials for instant and lotto games, while providing the best customer service possible. Weekly monitoring of all retailers to ensure scratch tickets are received, stored, and sold in a secure manner. Play an important role in keeping the Rapid City Validation Center running accurately and efficiently. Training and informing the lottery retailers and players is a very important part of this position.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

• experience working in collaborative team environments and demonstrating effective time management and organization;
• possess or be able to obtain a valid South Dakota drivers’ license and have a good driving record;
• must submit to a credit and state/federal background check;
• good judgment in dealing with people and have the ability to communicate effectively;
• ability to travel and perform work requiring irregular hours occasionally;
• knowledge and experience with the practices of product marketing, merchandising, using POS material and display techniques;
• High School diploma or GED.
