Job summary

J.B. Hunt Transport in Stockton, CA is seeking a Manager Trainee to learn the management of a small driver count and non-traditional shifts, including nights and weekends.

You will ensure safe, timely freight movement and provide best-in-class customer service under supervision. This full-time role trains you to meet DOT regulations, manage driver compliance, and coordinate with internal and external contacts to plan, route, monitor, and deliver freight and loads.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with up to 4 years of education/experience and training; pursuing degree programs with up to 2 years or equivalent education/experience; may require travel to account, customer, and company events.
• Bachelor’s degree holders with flexibility to work across multiple shifts including nights and weekends if needed.

Responsibilities

• Learn to build and maintain positive relationships with drivers and safe carriers to ensure seamless carrier setup and productivity.
• Fill in for absent personnel and work on projects to optimize fleet operations and profitability.
• Learn to manage driver training, onboarding, and system usage for internal and customer systems.
• Assist in performance reporting and financial analysis through customer-facing meetings and reporting.
• Gain knowledge of inventory, assets, and driver assignments to balance equipment.
• Perform administrative duties such as payroll, budgeting, and invoicing; support pay issue resolution and reporting.
• Assist with yard management, equipment checks, and coordinating preventive maintenance.
• Collaborate with drivers, customers, and staff to resolve service, routing, or pay issues as they arise.
