Job summary

Norfolk Southern is seeking a Locomotive Electrician Trainee to join the team and gain hands-on experience in locomotive electrical maintenance through classroom and field training.

The role involves inspecting, repairing, and installing electrical systems on diesel-electric locomotives, with a pathway to journeyman status. Candidates must meet safety, drug, and physical requirements and be willing to travel for training.

Qualifications

• Must have strong verbal and written communication abilities.
• Proven problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Basic math aptitude and multi-tasking capability.
• Good memory for tracking locomotive placement and components.

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with railroad rules, safety regulations, and federal standards.
• Wire, maintain, repair, rebuild, inspect, and install locomotive electrical equipment.
• Read electrical prints, test circuits with multimeters and diagnostic tools.
• Diagnose and repair electrical malfunctions including charging and wheel-slip issues.
• Operate and move locomotives within shop limits as required.
