Job summary

Norfolk Southern Corp. invites applications for the Locomotive Electrician Trainee role, a hands-on, field-based program preparing individuals for locomotive electrical maintenance through classroom instruction and on‑the‑job training.

You will learn to inspect, repair, and install electrical systems on diesel‑electric locomotives across our network, with safety training, lodging provided during training, and travel reimbursement per union agreement. Union membership required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Completion of an electrical vocational or trade school program is preferred.
• One year experience reading blueprints or electrical schematics is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with railroad rules, safety regulations, and federal standards.
• Wire, maintain, repair, rebuild, inspect, and install electrical equipment on locomotives.
• Read electrical prints and test circuits using diagnostic tools.
• Diagnose and repair electrical malfunctions and perform work with voltages up to 1200V and currents up to 2400A.
