Job summary

Norfolk Southern invites applicants for the Locomotive Electrician Trainee role. This field-based program combines classroom instruction with hands-on training to inspect, repair, and install electrical systems on diesel-electric locomotives across the network.

Trainees learn wiring, testing, and diagnostics under safety-focused supervision and travel for training as needed. Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, 18+, valid driver's license, and ability to pass pre-employment drug

Qualifications

• Verbal comprehension and communication skills.
• Yes/No decision making and problem solving.
• Basic math abilities relevant to electrical work.

Responsibilities

• Wire, maintain, repair, rebuild, inspect, and install electrical equipment on locomotives.
• Read electrical prints and test circuits with diagnostic tools.
• Diagnose and repair electrical malfunctions and propulsion-related issues.
• Work in shop and field environments with safety-first procedures.
