Job summary

Norfolk Southern is seeking candidates for the Locomotive Electrician Trainee program. This hands-on, field-based role trains you to inspect, repair, and install electrical systems on diesel-electric locomotives across our network, with lodging and travel paid per union agreement.

The program combines classroom orientation and on-the-job training, lasting about seven weeks, preparing you for a seniority-based union position.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• 18 years of age or older.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to pass pre-employment drug and physical screening.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather and perform heavy physical labor.
• Must pass post-offer medical examination including a drug test.

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with railroad rules, safety regulations and federal standards.
• Wire, maintain, repair, rebuild, inspect, and install electrical equipment on locomotives.
• Read electrical prints and test circuits using diagnostic tools.
• Diagnose and repair electrical malfunctions including charging/transition issues.
