Job summary

First Student is seeking a dependable Dispatcher to support daily transportation operations at our Bronx location. This full-time role involves coordinating routes, driver assignments, and real-time problem solving to keep transportation running safely and on schedule.

Ideal candidates will have 1–2 years of related experience, strong communication skills, and familiarity with radio dispatch procedures. The position requires a high school diploma and DOT compliance as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 1-2 years of relevant experience preferred.
• Dispatch, transportation, terminal, or professional driving experience preferred.
• Knowledge of radio dispatch procedures.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to remain organized and make decisions in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
• Comfortable communicating by phone and two-way radio.
• Basic computer skills.
• Dependable attendance and punctuality.
• Ability to meet applicable DOT physical and drug-testing requirements when required for the position.

Responsibilities

• Assist with daily routes, schedules, and driver assignments.
• Coordinate and monitor radio and telephone traffic.
• Communicate route changes, delays, call-outs, and other operational updates.
• Work with drivers and monitors to resolve service issues.
• Respond to customer questions and complaints and help identify solutions.
• Serve as a liaison between customers, drivers, monitors, and local operations.
• Help resolve pickup and drop-off issues in real time.
• Maintain dispatch logs, records, and operational documentation.
• Coach and provide direction to drivers and monitors as needed.
• Assist with backup driving when required.
• Perform clerical and administrative duties related to transportation operations.
• Support special projects and other operational needs as assigned.
• Assist with supervision of daily transportation operations.
