Job summary

Shelter Insurance Companies seeks an experienced Litigation Counsel to lead and direct claims litigation activities and case strategy across designated states. You will supervise outside attorneys, train claims staff, and ensure compliance with state law and policy terms.

The role requires a law degree with strong knowledge of insurance law, and 1–3 years of trial or legal claims experience, plus on-the-job training to master contracts and procedures across jurisdictions.

Qualifications

• Law degree and mastery of litigation, insurance law, and policy terms.
• ~1-3 years trial or legal claims experience, and 6-12 months on-the-job training to learn insurance contracts and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Direct claims litigation activities and case strategy for designated Shelter states.
• Direct Managers and Supervisors in claims handling and investigations on complex, high-exposure branch claims.
• Direct and train claims-handling activities in line with state law for assigned branches.
• Research law to explain impact on claims handling and policy changes proposals.
