Job summary

Shelter Insurance Companies is seeking a Litigation Counsel to guide claims litigation strategy across designated Shelter states. You will direct managers, coordinate outside counsel, and ensure compliance with state law.

Ideal candidates hold a law degree with strong expertise in litigation, insurance law, and claims procedures, plus 1–3 years of trial or claims experience and training to learn contracts and policies across jurisdictions.

Qualifications

• Law degree and mastery in litigation and insurance law.
• 1-3 years trial or legal claims experience and 6-12 months training to learn contracts and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Manage and direct claims litigation activities and case strategy for designated Shelter states.
• Direct Managers and Supervisors in claims handling, investigation, and communication on complex, high-exposure branch claims.
• Supervise outside counsel and coordinate training on state-law requirements.
• Direct and train claims-handling activities aligned with state law for branches and units.
• Research law to explain impact on claims handling, procedures, and policy changes.
• Counsel other Shelter departments on claims, coverage and legal issues.
• Direct and prepare training for schools, eLearning, and Branches.
