Job summary

Shelter Insurance Companies seeks a Litigation Counsel to lead claims litigation strategy across designated states. You will direct managers, supervise outside attorneys, and guide investigations and communications on complex, high-exposure branch claims.

The role requires a law degree with strong knowledge of insurance law and policy terms, plus 1–3 years of trial or claims experience and 6–12 months of on-the-job training to learn contracts and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Manage and direct claims litigation activities and case strategy for designated Shelter states.
• Direct Managers and Supervisors in claims handling, investigation, and communication on complex, high-exposure claims.
• Supervise outside attorneys, including hiring, firing, and performance evaluation.
• Direct training on claims-handling protocols and state-law requirements.
• Research laws to assess impact on claims handling and policy changes proposals.
• Counsel other departments on legal issues and documentation.
