Job summary

Vancouver Public Schools Heights Campus in Vancouver, Washington is seeking a Special Program Paraeducator 1 for the Specialized Program. This position is 6.5 hours per day, 9 months per year, non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act, with immediate starting date.

Qualifications

• Documentation verifying a high school diploma or GED.
• Official transcripts verifying an Associate's degree (90 quarter, 60 semester) OR 72 quarter or 48 semester credits from an accredited university, college, community college or business school; OR ETS ParaPro Assessment result of 461 or higher.
• One year of related experience working with children in an educational setting preferred.
• Successful experience as part of an educational team preferred.
• Experience demonstrating interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team.
• Ability to think quickly and solve problems.
• Experience working with children with moderate to severe disabilities preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist the teacher in implementing and evaluating goals and objectives on individual student IEPs.
• Manage student behavior and provide instructional assistance as directed by the certificated staff.
• De-escalate emotional/behavioral crises and apply behavior management plans as appropriate.
• Distribute materials, assist with data entry, record keeping and filing.
• Observe assigned students and report observations to appropriate staff.
• Attend training meetings and participate in team meetings as needed.
• Assignment may include assisting student(s) on and off buses.
• Perform other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by administrator in alignment with job classification.
