Job summary

Vancouver Public Schools in Vancouver, WA is seeking a Special Program Paraeducator I for Life Skills to support students with disabilities in a classroom setting. The role is 6.5 hours per day, 9 months per year and non-exempt under the FLSA.

Responsibilities include assisting the lead teacher, implementing educational activities, supporting behavior management, and ensuring student safety and confidentiality. Weekend trainings and CPI de-escalation training are required after hiring.

Qualifications

• Documentation verifying a high school diploma or GED and one of the following: official transcripts for an Associate's degree (90 quarter/60 semester credits) or 72 quarter or 48 semester credits from an accredited institution; OR ETS ParaPro Assessment result of 461 or higher
• One year of related experience working with children in an educational setting preferred
• Experience as part of an educational team preferred
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment to support classroom goals
• Problem solving, analytical and conflict resolution skills; ability to think quickly
• Experience working with children with moderate to severe disabilities preferred

Responsibilities

• Assist the teacher with classroom activities and individualized instruction
• Maintain data collection records and prepare teaching materials as directed
• Monitor student behavior and provide support to implement behavior plans
• Escort and assist students with mobility and transitions around the school
• Observe and report student progress to certificated staff
