Job summary

McCormick Riverfront Library is seeking a Library Supervisor to lead daily operations, supervise staff and volunteers, and ensure a high level of customer service.

The role requires strong communication, problem solving, and adaptability, with responsibilities including workflow planning, staff training, program support, and public safety oversight. This is a full-time position based in Harrisburg, PA, offering a weekday schedule and occasional evenings or weekends.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; associates degree preferred.
• One year of supervisory or equivalent experience required.
• Customer service experience, public library setting preferred.
• Technology experience required.
• Requires occasional independent transportation and ability to lift 25 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Supervises the Public Service Assistants, Pages, and Volunteers; assists in hiring and training.
• Communicates library goals, priorities, policies, and procedures to staff.
• Leads staff participation in library initiatives, programs, events, and promotions.
• Plans and coordinates day-to-day workflow and cash receipts procedures.
• Promotes excellent customer service and professional behavior.
• Engages with community partners and supports outreach activities.
• Performs circulation, basic reference, and reader's advisory tasks; assists patrons with computer use.
• Explains library policies to the public and handles complaints.
• Opens/closes the building and ensures public security.
• Reports building/equipment needs and prepares monthly reports.
• Attends staff meetings and assists in department meetings.
• Adheres to core values and supports the library mission.
