Job summary

The City of Springfield Public Library seeks a courteous library clerk to perform clerical tasks and support patrons.

Under the direction of the Branch Manager and Central Library Manager of Borrower’s Services, you will check materials in and out, handle holds, process returns, and prepare monthly statistics while ensuring accurate cash handling for fines. Evening and weekend work is required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to interact successfully with staff and the public.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Knowledge of public library policy, services, practices, plans and problems.

Responsibilities

• Check library materials in and out; assist patrons with questions.
• Pack and unpack delivery shipments; manage holds and patron records.
• Process overdue items, billing, and cash handling for fines.
• Prepare monthly statistics; remove old periodicals.
• Perform other duties as assigned; work nights and weekends.
