Job summary

Kansas City Public Library is seeking a part-time staff member to provide basic circulation and registration services at the Central Library. You will assist customers in locating materials, process holds, and support computer use, with an emphasis on courteous, helpful service.

The role requires strong English communication, physical stamina, and ability to lift up to 10 pounds. Schedule includes Saturdays, Sundays, and Monday/Tuesday evenings.

Qualifications

• Minimum of three years of customer service experience.
• Ability to effectively communicate in English.
• Ability to access materials from shelves overhead or below waist level.
• Ability to organize personal work routines effectively.
• Excellent physical stamina; standing for long periods; lift up to 10lbs.
• Demonstrated intermediate computer skills.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to provide service in a values-based environment.
• Ability to provide service in a courteous, friendly, efficient manner.

Responsibilities

• Provides basic circulation and registration services: checks materials in and out; promotes library services during customer interactions.
• Maintains circulation and computer use records; enters customer and title information; processes holds and updates records.
• Sorts and shelves new and discharged materials; retrieves closed stacks; assists with collection weeding and inventory.
• Resolves customer problems with equipment; performs simple machine maintenance as needed.
• Assists in collection development/promotion and maintenance; creates displays.
• Lifts and routes materials (up to 10 pounds).
• Provides patron recommendations for viewing and music options.
• Performs other related work and undertakes special projects as assigned.
