Job summary

The Wichita Public Library is seeking a part-time Library Resource Officer to oversee safety and security for customers, staff, and buildings. The role emphasizes trauma-informed, community-focused service and collaboration with area partners to assist patrons with housing, healthcare, and social services.

You will work weekends at the Advanced Learning Library, de-escalate conflicts, and help maintain a welcoming space while supporting staff and patrons in a safety-first environment.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of threat/risk assessments and security operations.
• Completion of required training at the Law Enforcement Training Center.
• Trauma-informed service approach and adaptability to customer needs.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and to communicate clearly.

Responsibilities

• Engage with library customers to provide day-to-day behavior support.
• Monitor safety and security of library spaces and support overall customer experience.
• Exercise good judgment and manage unruly individuals.
• Identify and refer individuals to social services when appropriate.
• Prepare incident reports and maintain incident management database.
