Job summary

The City of Worcester's Worcester Public Library seeks a Library Security Compliance Officer to protect the Main Library and grounds, patrol premises, and respond to incidents. Night and weekend shifts, bilingual applicants encouraged.

The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, experience with diverse urban populations, ability to de-escalate, prepare concise reports, and enforce library policies.

Qualifications

• Patrol public areas to maintain order and safety
• Enforce Patron Behavior Policy with staff
• Prepare incident reports and keep records
• Escort patrons when necessary
• First aid in emergencies
• Speak with tact to diverse populations
• Work with minimal supervision
• Travel to multiple locations as assigned
• Attend staff training
• Maintain confidentiality
• Learn library technologies
• On-site attendance required

Responsibilities

• Maintain high visibility by patrolling public areas to deter disruptions
• Work with staff to enforce library policies and safety measures
• Diffuse conflicts and escort patrons when needed
• Serve as first point of contact for security concerns
• Assist with No Trespass orders and incident reporting
• Provide basic first aid when required
• Share information on local social services with patrons
• Close building with staff when shifts end
• Build positive, trustworthy relationships with patrons and staff
• Participate in ongoing staff development
• Perform other duties per unit responsibilities
• Travel to multiple library locations as assigned
