Job summary

The Akron-Summit County Public Library seeks a Public Services Assistant II at the Green Branch to support learning, information services, and programs for all ages.

This full-time role (37.5 hours weekly) includes evenings, Saturdays, and Sundays at the Green Branch in Uniontown, Akron, OH, and focuses on welcoming patrons, assisting with materials, and providing reference help. A high school diploma is required; some college or an Associate’s degree is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with some college coursework or Associate’s degree.
• Knowledge of customer interests related to Library materials, programs, and services.
• Knowledge of the principles of intellectual freedom as they apply to public libraries.
• Skill in customer service.
• Ability to lift light objects (<25 lbs) and carry short distances, push carts up to 200 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Greets customers and assists with selecting and using Library materials.
• Answers reference questions and directs to appropriate divisions or resources.
• Assists users with Library technology and databases.
• Interprets Library policies to the public in a customer-responsive manner.
• Performs opening/closing routines and routine circulation tasks.
