Job summary

The Akron-Summit County Public Library is hiring a Public Services Assistant II (Floater) for 37.5 hours weekly, including evenings and weekends, to support service desks across locations and assist with materials, reference questions, and programs. Responsibilities include greeting patrons, helping with library materials and databases, shelving, circulation, and applying library policies.

A high school diploma is required; a bachelor's degree is preferred and experience in libraries is a plus.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with some college coursework or an Associate’s degree.
• Customer service experience is valued.
• Knowledge of library materials, programs, and services is helpful.

Responsibilities

• Greeting customers at the public service desk.
• Assisting customers in selection and use of Library materials.
• Answering varied reference questions.
• Helping users with Library technology and databases and offering instruction.
• Addressing problem situations and maintaining order.
• Performing standard Library routines including circulation, shelving, and delivery.
• Interpreting Library policies and procedures to the public in a courteous manner.
• Performing clerical duties including stocking and ordering supplies.
• Processing, shelving, and merchandising Library materials.
