Job summary

Columbus Metropolitan Library in Columbus, OH is seeking a part-time Customer Services Specialist (20/24 hr.) to greet customers, resolve inquiries, and direct patrons to resources. Shifts include weekdays and alternating weekends, with some evening hours at the Linden Branch.

You will handle library accounts, assist with technology, maintain materials, and support operations from opening to closing. A strong customer-service mindset and reliability are essential.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Ability to express self effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing.
• Knowledge of Internet and database services.

Responsibilities

• Processes and sorts materials accurately and efficiently; including returned materials, reserved items for incoming and outgoing delivery, expired reserved materials, and new materials as needed.
• Greet customers and answer basic reference questions in person, over the phone, by e-mail, or other methods; locate materials and assist with library technology.
• Manage library card accounts including processing applications, verifying information, and enforcing account rules.
• Balance cash drawers, prepare deposits, and complete money reports.
• Resolve customer account disputes by interviewing customers and negotiating as needed.
• Assist with opening/closing procedures, order supplies, maintain displays, and manage lost and found items.
• Maintain library collection by handling materials, processing withdrawals, and preparing reports.
• Provide training on library technology to customers and staff; coordinate with IT as needed.
• Coordinate volunteers and assist with training of new staff for Customer Services tasks.
• Perform additional duties including participating in task forces or committees.
