Brief Position Description:

The Tacoma and South Unit Community and Intake Navigator plays an essential role in our unit, ultimately enabling us to ensure that we provide quality service to as many people as possible in this time of significant need in our community. A JV would be a primary point of contact for community members, working with them to gather documents and information for intakes, conducting intakes, and also assisting with legal case preparation. The JV will coordinate bimonthly workshops and serve closely with attorneys and other advocates to draft applications, declarations, motions, gather documents, and the many other pieces of work that go into preparing a case.

Day in Life of JV

The Tacoma and South Unit Community and Intake Navigator will serve in a supportive environment with other members of the Tacoma and South Unit (TSU). Under attorney supervision, the JV will draft motions, applications, and declarations, as well as gather documents in support of clients' immigration cases. They will also be responsible for conducting intakes, assisting community members as they come into the office, answering phone calls and responding to messages. A typical day may include collaborating with a TSU advocate to draft forms and declarations, checking in with the JV supervisor, meeting with community members to answer questions or assess the viability of their case, and contacting other agencies to obtain records for a potential client's case. The JV will focus their service on immigrants who are not represented by TSU advocates, but will also serve represented clients. The TSU Community and Intake Navigator will be supervised by an attorney and will meet with the attorney weekly for a check-in. The JV can anticipate meeting formally and informally with the supervisor for approximately 1-3 hours a week.
