Brief Position Description:
The JV ERA Case Manager helps Jesse Tree expand the capacity of our Emergency Rental Assistance (ERA) Program to serve Treasure Valley neighbors at risk of homelessness. This position provides opportunities to serve clients directly, collaborate with community organizations, and connect with landlords to prevent eviction, slowing the flow of people falling into homelessness. Supported by our diverse team of public service professionals, the ERA Case Manager role is a dynamic, inter-collaborative position filled with opportunities for personal growth and making positive impacts on client lives.
Day in Life of JV
As the JV AmeriCorps ERA Case Manager, you will arrive at the office and start the day by greeting colleagues before checking emails and voicemails to check in with clients and address immediate concerns. After that, you will plan your day and prepare for in-person or over-the-phone case management appointments. You will assist clients through the process of receiving rental assistance, providing education and connections to community resources, helping create individualized budgets, and mediating with landlords to prevent eviction and homelessness. You will serve in a dynamic and supportive environment, collaborating closely with Jesse Tree's ERA colleagues whenever you have questions about case management. You will have weekly check ins with your site supervisor and have more formal check-ins with the Program Manager once a month, which typically last an hour. During these sessions, you will discuss your well-being, client stories, plans, and areas for improvement, as well as explore new community partnership opportunities. Jesse Tree emphasizes collaboration and encourages case conferencing among case managers. The clients you will serve qualify as low-income, typically earning below 80% of the Area Median Income, and often face urgent situations like a 3-day eviction notice or an active eviction court hearing. Our diverse client base includes older adults, college students, families, and various marginalized groups. Each case management appointment lasts between 30 and 60 minutes to ensure thorough support. At the end of your day, you will collaborate with team members, prepare client files for review, provide additional support after appointments, and schedule any necessary follow-up communications or appointments. This variety keeps your role engaging and meaningful as you serve to make a positive impact in the community.
