Brief Position Description:
At Interim CDA, the JV/AmeriCorps member will have a dynamic and critical impact on the Chinatown International District of Seattle by affecting both Food Security and Environmental Justice. This positions serves alongside low-income seniors in the neighborhood providing them with nutrition, health, and social opportunities by managing a Cooking Club for seniors and coordinating volunteers for the senior Community Garden. Additionally, this position serves with youth of all ages on issues such as Climate Resilience, Environmental Justice and Food Security.
Day in Life of JV
One typical day may start with packing ingredients and handing them out to seniors in our Cooking Club. Then meet with staff and volunteers in the garden to pick up trash, pull weeds in the children's garden, and help gardeners with repairs in their plots. After lunch, the JV member might schedule volunteer groups for the garden. In the late afternoon, the JV member would do tabling at one of our low-income resident buildings, giving out information on rental assistance and local meetings about topics affecting the neighborhood.
