O’Neal Steel in Pittsburgh, PA is seeking an Operations Manager to lead warehouse and delivery operations with a focus on safety, efficiency, and continuous improvement. The role emphasizes lean practices, cost control, and staff development within a steel distribution environment.

The successful candidate will implement processes to improve productivity, quality, and on-time delivery, while fostering teamwork and compliance with OSHA and EPA standards across the facility.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years of supervisory or leadership experience preferably in a steel service center, metal processing/manufacturing environment or other warehouse/distribution type industry.
• Strong processing and manufacturing experience preferred.
• Understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles.
• Valid Driver's License required.

Responsibilities

• Develop and support an operational excellence distribution model that is fast, accurate and dependable.
• Recruit, interview and select warehouse staff; train and delegate responsibility.
• Analyze and initiate efforts to control expenses.
• Operate with a strong emphasis on safety; conduct monthly safety meetings.
• Counsel or discipline staff to maintain safety, quality, and productivity.
• Develop and implement procedures to improve plant operations.
• Conduct annual performance and wage reviews; recognize high performance.
• Respond to information requests from management and corporate functions.
• Encourage innovative solutions to improve district growth and profitability.
• Maintain preventive maintenance programs and equipment upkeep.
• Suggest plant layout/design changes when appropriate.
• Apply Lean Manufacturing; recommend equipment additions.
• Monitor shipping/receiving to improve truck scheduling and utilization.
• Monitor plant equipment and manpower in lean environment.
• Promote housekeeping using 5-S and Visual Factory.
• Reduce injuries and equipment loss; maintain safety program.
• Promote positive employee environment; train supervisory personnel.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA and EPA standards.
• Create continuous improvement and move to self-directed work.
• Promote excellent customer service; meet delivery promises and tolerances.
• Meet KPI targets: OTD, QDR, LTA, MH/Ton.
