Job summary

American States Utility Services, Inc. on behalf of American States Water Company seeks a field construction professional to support water and wastewater system projects at military installations nationwide.

The role involves supervising crews, coordinating subcontractors, ensuring safety, and maintaining progress reports. Candidates should have strong communication skills, a valid driver’s license, and 5+ years in water/wastewater construction.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Five years of water and wastewater construction experience preferred.
• Two years of supervisory experience on construction projects preferred.
• Basic computer skills.
• Strong communication and organizational skills with attention to detail.
• Heavy equipment operation and instruction preferred.
• Strong knowledge of utility plans and specifications.
• Proficient with lasers, line and grade, excavation and dewatering.
• GIS data collection training preferred.
• Valid driver's license required.
• United States citizenship required.
• General hand and power tools knowledge required.
• OSHA safety training required.

Responsibilities

• Under close supervision, performs activities related to all phases of water and wastewater system utility construction.
• Prepare work plans, schedule, direct and supervise work crews and subcontractors to assure maximum efficiency.
• Assess look-ahead schedules and identify needs, material management, deficiencies and potential conflicts.
• Collect field data and maintain daily and weekly construction progress, inspection, and erosion control reports electronically.
• Observe and comply with safety rules and report unsafe conditions to supervisor.
• Perform physical construction including trenching, pipe laying, backfilling, and compaction.
• Oversee water and wastewater line testing including chlorination and pressure testing.
• Focus on quality and quality management.
• Ensure safe working conditions including trench safety and bracing.
• Conduct weekly safety meetings with crew.
• Construct and maintain erosion control and traffic control devices as required.
• Load, unload, identify and distribute materials per plans.
• Signal equipment operators to position machinery and materials.
• May operate heavy machinery (dump trucks, backhoes, etc.).
• Perform pre-shift/pre-trip inspections and reports.
• Inspect work to meet ASUS and installation standards and regulatory requirements.
• Perform customer support and interact with the public professionally.
• Prepare sites to eliminate hazards.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
