Job summary

Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson is seeking a Transportation Technician IV to lead inspection on transportation construction projects across North Carolina. This field-based position requires supervising staff, verifying conformance to plans and specifications, and effectively communicating with clients, contractors, and agencies.

The role demands an Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology or Survey Technology with seven years of experience, plus a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or related curriculum and seven years of progressive technician level experience.
• Active driver's license.
• Experience analyzing and interpreting highway construction plans.
• Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects independently or with limited supervision.
• Experience applying engineering concepts to solve complex problems.
• Thorough understanding of DOT Standards and Specifications and Roadway Standard Drawings.
• NCDOT certifications including Concrete Field Technician, QMS Roadway Technician, and Conventional Density Testing preferred.
• Experience with local clients preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform inspection of contractor’s operations on roadway and bridge projects to verify conformance to plans and specifications.
• Supervise and maintain subordinate inspection staff throughout construction of the project.
• Measure and track quantities of pay items.
• Gather and maintain record documents including material certifications, testing reports, and inspector’s daily diaries.
• Interact with the public, government agencies, contractors, subcontractors, and other internal and external parties to respond to inquiries and resolve field issues.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
