Job summary

Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson is seeking a Transportation Technician IV to lead inspection on transportation projects in North Carolina, supervising inspection staff and verifying conformance to plans and specifications.

This field role requires strong communication, the ability to interact with the public and agencies, and knowledge of DOT standards; candidates should have an associate degree and seven years of experience or an equivalent combination.

Qualifications

• Associate degree plus seven years of progressive technician level experience or equivalent education/experience
• Active driver’s license
• Experience analyzing and interpreting highway construction plans
• Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking and completing projects independently or with limited supervision
• Experience applying engineering concepts to solve complex problems
• Understanding of DOT Standards and Roadway Standard Drawings
• NCDOT certifications including Concrete Field Technician, QMS Roadway Technician, and Conventional Density Testing preferred
• Experience with local clients preferred

Responsibilities

• Inspect contractor operations on transportation projects to verify conformance to plans and specifications
• Supervise and maintain subordinate inspection staff during construction
• Measure and track quantities of pay items
• Gather and maintain records including material certifications, testing reports, and inspector’s daily diaries
• Interact with the public, government agencies, contractors, subcontractors, and other stakeholders to respond to inquiries and resolve field issues
• Perform other related duties as assigned
