Job summary

GFT is seeking a Principal Transmission Line Engineer to join our Power Business Group. Based remotely or hybrid in select U.S. locations, the role leads transmission line design, guides project teams, and ensures compliance with NESC/IEEE/NEC.

Responsibilities include design using PLS-CADD, preparing construction packages, cost estimation, and mentoring engineers. PE license preferred and 15+ years of experience required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Electrical, or Structural Engineering from an accredited college or university.
• 15+ years of experience in transmission line design.
• In-depth knowledge of NESC, IEEE, and NEC.
• High proficiency in PLS-CADD.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
• Experience in electrical utility or utility consulting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design transmission line segments using PLS-CADD or other structural design software.
• Develop design criteria documents and construction specifications.
• Prepare comprehensive construction packages including structure details and plans.
• Estimate project costs, resources, labor, and materials with deadlines.
• Write, modify, and review specifications per NESC, IEEE, NEC, and industry best practices.
• Conduct feasibility and routing studies and EMF calculations.
• Oversee project implementation and verify foundations, structures, and equipment.
• Lead or assist with proposal preparation and business development.
• Travel to client sites for project definition and execution phases.
• Mentor and coach less experienced engineers and technicians.
