Job summary

GFT is seeking a Principal Transmission Line Engineer to lead transmission line design and project execution within our Power Business Group. The role involves directing SME-level designs, coordinating with clients and internal teams, and ensuring adherence to codes and standards.

Ideal candidates bring 15+ years in transmission line design, strong PLS-CADD skills, and experience in utility consulting, with a PE license preferred. Hybrid/remote arrangement possible for the right candidate.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Structural Engineering from an accredited college or university.
15+ years of experience in transmission line design.
In-depth knowledge of NESC, IEEE, and other applicable codes and standards.
High proficiency in PLS-CADD.
Experience in electrical utility or utility consulting preferred.
Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

Lead and oversee transmission line project designs as SME.
Navigate complexities of electrical transmission line design and lead client and internal discussions.
Provide strategic input to leadership to align with project goals.
Design transmission line segments using PLS-CADD or other software.
Prepare construction packages with structure details, material lists, staking tables, and plans.
Oversee project implementation and verify foundations, structures, and equipment installation.
Lead or assist with proposal preparation and business development.
Travel to client sites for project phases.
Mentor and coach engineers and technicians.
