Job summary

GFT is seeking a Principal Transmission Line Engineer to join our Power Business Group. This role offers hybrid or remote work for the right candidate, with in-person options at select office locations.

You will lead transmission line project designs, develop criteria and construction packages, oversee cost estimates and scheduling, ensure compliance with NESC/IEEE/NEC, and mentor junior engineers while supporting business development and client engagements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Electrical, or Structural Engineering from an accredited university.
• 15+ years of experience in transmission line design.
• Strong knowledge of NESC, IEEE, NEC and related codes.
• Proficient in PLS-CADD.
• PE license preferred; utility consulting experience preferred.
• Strong technical writing and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead transmission line project designs as SME and guide client and internal teams.
• Develop design criteria, specifications, and construction packages.
• Estimate costs, resources, and schedules; manage deadlines.
• Prepare and review specifications per NESC/IEEE/NEC.
• Perform feasibility and routing studies and EMF calculations.
• Oversee implementation, verify foundations and installation.
• Support proposals and business development; travel to client sites.
• Mentor engineers and technicians.
