Job summary

GFT is a private AEC firm focused on infrastructure where power projects drive energy solutions. We seek a Principal Transmission Line Engineer to lead high‑voltage design, supervise teams, and coordinate with clients on transmission line projects.

The role emphasizes reliability and sustainable energy outcomes. The candidate will advance design standards, ensure compliance with NESC/IEEE/NEC, and mentor engineers while shaping project delivery across multiple sites and clients.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil, Electrical, or Structural Engineering from an accredited college or university.
• 15+ years of experience in transmission line design.
• In-depth knowledge of NESC, IEEE, NEC and related codes for transmission line design.
• High proficiency in PLS-CADD.
• Experience in electrical utility or utility consulting preferred.
• Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills.
• PE license preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design transmission line segments using PLS-CADD or similar tools.
• Develop design criteria documents and construction specifications.
• Prepare construction packages with structure details, material lists, staking tables, plans, profiles and stringing charts.
• Estimate project costs, resources, labor, and materials with deadlines.
• Write and review specifications per NESC, IEEE, NEC and industry practices.
• Conduct feasibility and routing studies and EMF calculations for planning.
• Oversee project implementation, verify foundations and equipment installation.
• Lead or support proposal development and business development efforts.
• Travel to client sites for project definition and execution; mentor junior engineers.
