Job summary

Carle Health is seeking a surgical technologist to provide direct and indirect patient care, assisting surgeons and training colleagues. The role emphasizes timely case preparation, sterile technique, and coordination with the surgical team across a range of specialties.

Candidate training includes completing BLS within 30 days and holding an Associate’s Degree in Surgical Technology; on-call responsibilities and ongoing mentorship of staff are expected.

Qualifications

• BLS certification must be obtained within 30 days, per AHA guidelines.
• Associate's Degree in Surgical Technology is required or preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare for surgeon-specific operative procedures with timeliness and efficiency.
• Ensure instruments, equipment, and sutures are complete and functional.
• Set up sterile field and scrub in prior to patient entry.
• Assist in case setup and organize back table and mayo holds.
• Collaborate with surgeons and precept other staff as needed.
• Teach RNs and scrub personnel in planning for surgical events.
• Participate in on-call hours outside scheduled work times, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Education

BLS Certification (AHA) within 30 days
