Job summary

Qualus is seeking a Principal Protection & Control Engineer to lead high-voltage substation protection and control design projects across the US. You will mentor junior engineers, develop innovative, code-compliant solutions, and drive technical excellence from concept to construction while upholding safety and reliability standards.

This senior role offers remote work within the United States with preferred hybrid options near designated offices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
• 15+ years of experience in Substation protection & control design engineering.
• P.E. License.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Excellent document management and organization skills.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment and interact professionally with clients and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Design substation protection and control systems in compliance with applicable codes and client standards.
• Create one-line and three-line diagrams, SCADA interfaces, and wiring/connection diagrams.
• Develop relay protection schemes and control philosophies with engineering calculations.
• Prepare equipment specifications and cost estimates for procurement.
• Develop conceptual protection and control designs for new and existing facilities.
• Prepare supporting docs for procurement, construction, commissioning and operations.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, clients, vendors, and contractors.
• Lead client meetings and site visits to collect data and present engineering solutions.
• Ensure QA/QC compliance and perform technical reviews of design packages.
• Mentor junior engineers and reviewers to ensure quality and consistency.
