Job summary

Mortenson is seeking an experienced Substation Supervisor to lead daily electrical craft activities, ensuring adherence to schedules and regulatory requirements. The role emphasizes safety, quality, and hands-on management of transformers, switchgear, and HV/MV/LV systems.

The ideal candidate will have 5+ years in electrical utility or substation work, a relevant technical degree, and the ability to read electrical drawings. Travel to project sites is required; CDL is a plus.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required.
Technical/Associate degree in Electrical Technology preferred; trade school certification preferred.
Minimum 5 years of electrical/utility/substation experience; apprenticeship preferred.
Valid state electrical license where required by project/jurisdiction.
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and blueprints.

Responsibilities

Plan, organize, and direct daily work of substation and electrical craft team members.
Adjust work sequences to meet construction schedule and equipment capacities.
Lead team with coaching; manage performance.
Inspect, maintain, test, and repair transformers and switchgear.
Install, terminate, and troubleshoot power, control, and communication cables.
Read drawings and determine work requirements and sequence.
Assist energization, commissioning, and startup activities.
Troubleshoot high-voltage systems and safety procedures.
Test circuits for safety and continuity; use meters/oscilloscopes.
Organize work via work orders; manage tools and materials.
